This Wednesday, February 11, Meteo France has issued a red alert for flooding in two departments. On Thursday, two more departments will be affected, one for strong winds and another for avalanches.
Meteo France has placed Gironde and Haute-Garonne under red alert due to flooding for February 11. These two departments will remain under red alert on February 12, alongside Aude, which will be on alert for strong winds, and Savoie, which will face avalanche risks.
According to the meteorological service, the Aude will experience wind gusts reaching up to 150 km/h, particularly in the eastern part of the department. In Savoie, a red avalanche alert has been issued: "The conditions are expected to be exceptional on the Haute-Tarentaise massif. Avalanches could reach roads and mountain infrastructure, and even residential areas, primarily above 1800 meters. Due to the unstable snowpack, large avalanches may descend lower into the valleys." Météo France emphasized the need for caution in these areas.
Une vigilance orange étendue à de nombreux départements
The flood vigilance continues to spread across the country. Following Morbihan at the start of the week, the orange alert has now been extended to Finistère, Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, Indre-et-Loire, Vienne, Haute-Vienne, Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, Charente, and Charente-Maritime, among others. Additional departments include Landes, Gers, Dordogne, Corrèze, Cantal, Lot, Aveyron, Lozère, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Haute-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées, and Ariège.
Additionally, South Corsica and Upper Corsica are under orange alert for violent winds, while Haute-Savoie, Isère, and Hautes-Alpes are on alert for avalanches as of the end of February 11. Three new departments have also been placed under orange alert: Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales, and Andorra.
